CNC Turning of an Additively Manufactured Complex Profile Ti6Al4V Component Considering the Effect of Layer Orientations

Electron beam melting (EBM) is one example of a 3D printing technology that has shown great promise and advantages in the fabrication medical devices such as dental orthopedic implants. However, these products require high surface quality control to meet specifications; thus, post-processing, with machining processes, required improve quality. This paper investigates influence two-part orientations Ti6Al4V EBM parts on CNC (turning) process. The two possible part used this work are across layers (AL) parallel layer (PL). effect examined roughness, power consumption, chip morphology, tool flank wear, morphology during dry turning, while using uncoated carbide tools at different feed rates cutting speeds. results showed AL orientation had better integrity after than PL orientation. Using same turning parameters, difference between roughness (Ra) value for (0.36 ?m) (0.79 about 54%. Similarly, consumption differs by 19% from thickness ratio 23% orientations, wear shows 40% orientations. It found that, when components manufactured along across-layer impact minimized machined improved.
